The shampoo is nearly finished. You go online for a replacement and somehow end up comparing a mist, a milk, a mayo, two oils and a butter. Before you buy all of them, decide what is missing from your wash day.
The next bottle needs to solve a problem.
A shampoo, a rinse-out conditioner and a leave-in do different things. Start with the directions rather than the product name: does it go on wet or dry hair, does it rinse out, and where does it sit in your routine? Two products with different names can still be competing for the same step.
Avroy carries several ranges, including Afri Moisture, Afrocenchix and Princess of Africa. That gives you choices at different prices. It does not mean a complete routine has to come from one range, or that a larger basket will work better for you.
Start with the bottle that has run out.
Afri Moisture Shampoo 250ml is listed at R89 and Afri Moisture Leave-in Conditioner 200ml at R99: R188 before delivery. That is a cleansing product and a leave-in option, not a complete prescribed routine. If your current routine includes a rinse-out conditioner, this example does not tell you to remove it.
Put the new basket beside what is already in your bathroom. If only the shampoo needs replacing, the relevant price is R89. Adding a leave-in because it happens to match the bottle is a different decision.
What does the higher-priced shampoo change?
Afrocenchix Sulphate-Free Shampoo 250ml is listed at R189. Both shampoo bottles contain 250ml, so the price difference is R100. The retailer describes the Afrocenchix product as designed for Afro-textured hair, including curls, coils and kinks. Read its ingredient list and directions alongside your existing shampoo rather than assuming the higher price alone proves a better fit.
These are catalogue comparisons; we have not tested the shampoos.
Leave room for the part you actually want.
If you want a styling product, decide on the finish before adding another moisturising step. Edge gel, mousse and curl custard are different formats. If you want easier detangling, read what the product says about when to apply it and how it should be used. If you want an oil, check whether the maker intends it for the scalp, hair lengths, or both.
Write the steps you already follow on your phone. Put each new product beside one step. If two new bottles land in the same place and you cannot explain why you need both, start with one.
Price the size, then price the basket.
A 350ml bottle is not directly comparable with a 250ml bottle by shelf price alone. Divide the price by the volume and multiply by 100 to get a price per 100ml. That is a useful cost comparison when you are comparing similar products; it says nothing about concentration or performance.
Finally add delivery. A small saving on one bottle can disappear if it creates a second order at another store. Use the haircare category to shortlist the right formats, then check the complete retailer basket before paying.
